Headset
« on: February 07, 2010, 11:04:41 PM »
Ok, so my headset just broke. Its about 4 months old. Every year, I go through about 4 headsets, totaling over $150. You name it, I've used it. Last year I went through 2 logitech, and 2 microsoft. The one that just broke was microsoft. Each time I have the same problem; The wiring stops working.

I have NEVER smashed them under my chair, bent the cords funny, wrapped them around anything, or even dropped them. The mic(and usually headphones) simply stop working.

Im extremely sick of this, and Im about to give up on them alltogether.

So, recommend me something. I need it to be low price range(no more than $40) and it MUST be USB. I dont care about audio quality. I want to be able to talk, and hear. Thats it.

I'll buy one more, and if it doesnt last, Im never buying another again.

Is it the dreams that make us real?

Borrow Gods?

I have the same problem so can't help you, as I type my microphone is hanging by the wires...

IcarsuS' Tutor: I covered my ass by writing this, so when the inspector comes in and asks, 'what are these doing standing around?' I can just give him my summary that basically says they're morons.

I suggest the Logitech Clearchat range. My clearchat comfort lasted me a good solid two years (LANs, being chucked off my head in rage, cord yanking etc and it still works) before some of the wires broke, and the sound would cut out in one ear - but thats wear and tear.

The Clearchat Pro is another good headset. Same style as Comfort, but with a few redesigns and functionality.

with my current headset, I just wrapped sticky tape around the wire going into the plugs (mind you it's not usb). I've only had it about 6 months but it seems to work fine still, could be the extra hold from the tape or just one of those things.

I've always taped mine back together untill they just finally crap out. The best headset I've ever owned was the one you could buy for the Playstation 2. It lasted me 4+ years and only broke because my dog drug it off the desk and I stepped on it.

They're not real expensive, about 50 USD.  The Razors are more and had crappy sound quality, and fell apart in about 3 months.  I'm like -Samurai-, don't throw them around or pull cords or be mean to 'em, but they didn't care, they still wanted to fail.  I've got a set of Plantronics now, seems like they want to fail too.  I'll try a set of the Fatal1tys next time.

I'll have a look and see whats up. The reason I wanted USB is because I like my sounds through my speakers, and my voices(vent) through the headset. Also, I can use them on my PS3 and save the money on bluetooth. USB usually has a mute button which is handy on PS3 if I need to cough, sneeze, murder someone that I know will be a screamer, or talk to someone else in the room, without the entire lobby hearing.

I'll look into the Logitech Clearchat series. I tell you, CoD:MW2 and GTA4 arent as much fun when you cant talk to the people you play with. Communicating through clan tags gets difficult.

However, I do play much, much better when I cant talk to my team mates.

I got a set of Logitech G35s today.  Doesn't look like they're going to break anytime soon, the construction is damned solid.  They are a little heavy, and a little expensive, and not the most comfortable thing I've ever had on my head.  On the other hand the sound quality makes up for it.  Never heard anything like this from headphones before.  The surround sound is like being in a theater.  I'm fairly impressed with them so far.
