BiohazeGaming.com in the New Year | Our Direction for 2010
« on: December 26, 2009, 11:30:42 PM »
This thread is essentially a survey as to what our direction should be for the new year. Some of you may notice that Biohaze Gaming has been slightly inactive over the past few months, both on the forums and game events. As 2010 is dawning upon us, perhaps it might be time to take a new direction on how the community is run. Before we go making any big decisions, I'd like to see what you guys think.

After all, we do this for you guys - the community. Without you guys, we wouldn't have gotten off the ground.

When PyroClysm and Myself first started Biohaze Gaming, we wanted to make a community that was as big as something like IGN or FileFront, with all the reviews, articles, events and competitions and all that flashy stuff. It has been a year and a half since we started, and while we have achieved a fair bit, the reality is that we're no closer to that goal than when we started.

Some members have come to me and suggested that the community is a tad big, and they feel left out somewhat in terms of contribution. Some others have suggested that we should be more of a "tight-knit" community, keeping our member base to those who actually want to be apart of it.

Large Open Community:
This is basically a "keep it open, and invite all we can" approach. We keep holding events, inviting people to join etc.

Close Open Community:
We keep our community open to everyone, but not go out of our way to gain more members. If someone wants to join, then they can do so should they choose.

Tight Knit Community:
I'm not sure how to describe this, but we'd basically make our community smaller by reducing the member amount to those who actively take part in our community (events, discussions and general stuffs), and invite people to join should they want to.

Now I may not have explained it right, but that basically whats been laid out on the table so far. If you have another suggestion as to a direction we could take - then please, write it in this thread.

We're open to all suggestions :) so don't be shy.

Tight-Knit. We should strive to gain as many people as we can though, but we have to make sure it stays active.

i reckon closed open/tight knit as in anyone can join but we try and do stuff to maintain being active, e.g. keep holding events and maybe drop posts in forums and such to advertise for these but still keep the spirit of the group

yea i have no idea where im going with these ideas at all

People need to appreciate the fact that they're a part of the group. I for one didnt really appreciate that i was in the group when i was first invited, and didnt participate in any events. Only recently (when i came to know Hyper a little better) have i been participating. I think the problem is that people are taking being in the group for granted, and not appreciating that they are in it, when someone else missed out. That's what makes people want to be in it, that's what makes people care about it, more than some other group or community, the fact that they got in, and they're wanted.
I'm not suggesting go as far as make the group non-public and invite only, but it might be a possibility.
I dont think numbers are a problem. Hell, you could have 200 members, but the problem isnt that you have 80something members, it's that those members dont appreciate what they have.

Catch my drift?
Anyways, see you guys all at Thursday night gaming - NYE Style :D
Hugs and Kisses, Talonus xD

I voted for tight knit, I still enjoy perusing every day at work but I'm not really interested in dropping adverts into every forum (though that's how Hyper got me from the Good Game forums). I've only been here for a few months but it's a nice place.

I voted large.

In all honesty I would say something similar to IGN would be possible, but, with just forums? No chance I'm afraid.
You need a full site with pages for each of the categories for that to become even fathomable.
I doubt you'd become as big as the site mentioned but hey, you can give it a shot.

IcarsuS' Tutor: I covered my ass by writing this, so when the inspector comes in and asks, 'what are these doing standing around?' I can just give him my summary that basically says they're morons.

Well, I never said it wasn't possible. Its just unrealistic at the moment, at least in my opinion.

Haha, well we can do with a little less you. xD jk jk

In all seriousness though, it'd take a big about of word-of-mouth about Biohaze to really get it off the ground like that - and I just don't see that happening, especially with the current memberbase.
